After years of cold temperatures on a Sunday morning, the shivering congregation at Frenchay Unitarian Chapel had suffered long enough. The Chapel committee decided to investigate an alternative to the existing tired old night storage heaters as they simply weren’t up to the job.
As part of an overall strategy to generate income for the ongoing maintenance of the Grade 2 listed building, the committee were also planning to let out the Chapel during the week and evenings for various classes and groups.
They knew that anyone paying to use the Chapel would expect a comfortable temperature which the existing night storage heaters just weren’t able to provide.
Ecowarm’s radiators were the answer
They needed a solution that would provide instant heat, on demand, to suit the times of their planned classes and meetings, rather than having to rely on ineffective night storage heaters that had to be switched on the night before and that would run out of heat by late afternoon.
After some research, the committee discovered German electric storage radiators and after considering a number of companies, three firms were chosen to provide a quotation to replace the existing night storage heaters with a modern slimline German heating system. The three companies that were selected were Wibo, Fischer Future Heat and Ecowarm.
After all the quotes were given full consideration by the committee, Ecowarm were invited back to go through the proposed heating solution in more detail.
Efficient electric radiators, even in a Listed Building
As a professional company it was our duty to make sure that any proposal that we made would satisfy the requirements of both the committee and their congregation. The historic building was a Chapel with a poor U-value (High heat loss) due to having large single glazed windows, no cavity walls and a ceiling height over 6 metres. It would indeed be a challenge to keep the congregation warm!
Using a variety of radiators with different power outputs and dimensions, we presented our solution to the committee. After some deliberation the committee accepted our proposal and gave Ecowarm the order.
The installation works included the de-commissioning of all the existing night storage heaters and removing them from site as well as some other additional electrical works that were required.
The works have been completed to the entire satisfaction of the committee and congregation alike and they are now enjoying the benefits that a modern German heating system can provide.
