Wet or dry?
Traditionally we use ‘wet’ systems to heat our homes, using a gas boiler and radiators, but installing a full wet system – even with a combi boiler – can be a huge expense if your holiday home is only used during the summer season. Your system will need regular maintenance and, if you’re letting, you’ll need the correct gas safety paperwork.
Electric radiators, on the other hand, don’t require extensive pipework – or paperwork – or a boiler, as they run directly from a socket. A full installation can be done in a day, and you can choose from a wide range of colours and designs.
Although ‘dry’ electric heat is more expensive in the UK than gas, there is considerable investment in electricity generation through solar and wind power as the energy of the future.
Programmable heat
If you decide on a traditional heating system, you’ll need to install a smart thermostat so you can precisely control the heating when the temperature drops, or to ensure the property is warmed through if you visit out of season.
Electric radiators with frost mode will automatically kick in when the temperature drops. Our Thermotec radiators have a foolproof manual dial control that makes setting and leaving them easy.
